The Richland Springs Report

I hope there were some areas that received good rain. I’m thankful for the little we received. But we needed four inches, and I doubt we received two tenths.

To illustrate the need that even our wildlife critters have, I was changing the filters on the bird spa when I looked down and there was a racer licking the water from the dirty filter. He was less than two feet from me. I moved to the other side to pick up a dish with water and slid it next to him. That snake did not move until he had finished drinking. I find that very sad. I have no chickens, so I let him go his slithering way. We need rain.

This is my second week covering for Coach Ethridge.

Although I don’t want to work full-time, I have been enjoying working with our high school kids. I’m impressed with how good they are in class. I am praying for Coach Ethridge’s speedy return, but I’m going to get a heart full of sweet kids.

The High Island varsity game was a 50-0 half-time game. As tired as the athletes were, they showed up at the Fifth Quarter to spend time with some of the community fans. The volleyball girls were in Ballinger. They brought home the win, turned around and suited up to cheer for the boys football game. These athletes often pull double duty and keep up with their studies.

The football boys have added another home game so there will be a home game on the 1st, against Olfen. The junior high boys will play at 5:30 p.m., and varsity will play at 7:00 p.m. There will be another home game on the 8th. The stands were packed last Friday, and I expect the same thing throughout the season. That also means the ladies from Shiloh and First Baptist will be providing four Fifth Quarter meals.

The Community Men’s Breakfast at the Tabernacle will be on the 7th of September. All community men and boys are welcome to come and have breakfast. The meal begins at 7:00 p.m. to avoid the excessive heat. Bring a friend, your son, everyone is welcome.

Wednesday Kid’s Church officially started on August 30th. The big bash in the city park will be on Monday. Volunteer workers are invited to take part in this exciting ministry.

We will continue to meet on Wednesdays from 4:15 until 5:30. Forms will need to be completed for insurance purposes, and parents will need to notify the church if their child needs a ride home.

The Ladies Quilting group will start back on the Tuesday after Labor Day. The quilting ladies are headed to a quilting retreat on the 14th. Debbie Phelan says there is room for two more people. The quilting group is open to all ladies from beginners to pro-levels. I lobbied for a simple pattern for not-so-good people like me, but Kay McKee, our fearless leader, says she wants to keep challenging us. I reserve the right to opt out for simple.

Please continue to pray for rain, for our country, the upcoming elections, our President, and the fires ravaging Texas thanks to the drought. We are thankful for the progress our ex-Mayor Johnny Reeves is making. We continue to pray for complete healing.

There are many more needing prayer help. I was excited to see that Donna Hill is doing better and able to get out more now that her eyes are healing. Stay cool and most of all, pray for our precious troops and their families. Have a great week.
