The Richland Springs Report

Storms all around and no rain on the ground! That’s not quite right, Richland proper received about two tenths of rain.

Every drop is appreciated and needed. I haven’t come across anyone outside of town who received any rain. The weather maps show us in an extreme drought. My lawn and pasture tell me that fact. Ranchers are having to feed and break into their winter stash. Times are tough around the area.

Our volleyball girls traveled to San Angelo to play a tough team as they pursue their championship goal. According to Coach Chandler, 'Tough loss for these girls last night, but losses don’t always have to be a bad thing. We definitely got better yesterday from playing a great San Angelo team. Unfortunately, to be the best you must play the best, and sometimes that means losing. We HATE losing, but when we know it made us better; we can handle it. We got better yesterday and that’s most important. These girls are improving fast, growing in our weakest areas, learning constantly, and getting better day by day.'

The varsity football game was another battle, but not the one we expected. The odds makers gave Lometa an 18-point win over us. Looking at the players walking onto the field, I could see why. They were one big team of big boys. Looks can be deceiving. We quickly took control of the field and scored on the first play of the game. No miracle happened for Lometa, and we finally mercy ruled them in the fourth quarter. The final score was 73-26. Congratulations on an outstanding game.

The junior high game was called early. Dalton Moats was injured and had to be removed from the field in an ambulance. I’m happy to report that his dislocated knee has been straightened, and he will be in a walking cast for some time. As a mother, I can feel the pain and panic that parents undergo when their child is carried off the playing field.

The Wednesday Kids’Church is back in full swing. Twenty- eight elementary students participated and another half dozen youth helped with crafts and Bible study. It’s an actionpacked 90 minutes that keeps everyone hopping. Volunteers are always welcome, and my heartfelt thanks go out to the men and women who show up every Wednesday to make this children's ministry a success.

The Men’s Prayer Breakfast in the Tabernacle was well at-tended last Saturday morning. The guest speaker was our own Superintendent James Womack. Some 28 men got up early to meet and spend time with one another over a delicious breakfast. I hope more men and boys will show up next month.

The ladies quilting group has returned to regular Tuesday meetings starting at 4:00 p.m. A small group of the ladies will be attending the Cherry Creek retreat between Llano and Fredericksburg. I will be one of those ladies. I usually accomplish many unfinished projects. They will be leaving Thursday morning and returning Sunday. I will have to return on Saturday.

The report on Jeremy Young is very positive. He has even been able to work in the restaurant a little. We’re excited about those developments, and Lisa thanked the community and churches that have prayed so diligently for Jeremy. There are many others facing cancer, operations, and covid-related issues. Please send up a prayer for them. There needs to be a giant prayer meeting about rain in this area. Please pray for our country, government, politicians, upcoming elections, and peace around the world. Most of all, pray for our precious troops and their families.
