The Richland Springs Report

Covid is raising its ugly head again. The good news is that it is not anywhere near as potent as the original virus. Time and mutation has lessened it’s strength. It is easily caught, but it quickly passes. Obviously, those with prior health concerns need to be more careful. Just wash your hands, cover your mouth when coughing, and stay home if you feel bad or test positive. I’m not a doctor, but just use common sense during the cold and flu season.

The Coyote train continued its roll over the competition last Friday. A last-minute touchdown against a strong Coolidge team gave the Coyotes a 42-38 win. Strong offensive showings by Kenny Triplett, Gage Behrens and Hutton Rogers advanced the scores.

Defensive power from Connor Womack and Hutton Rogers kept the Coyotes on their undefeated record.

The junior high football team also scored a win against Coolidge. This feisty little team has nine members, eight boys and one girl. Of those nine, three boys are hurt, one has just returned from a serious injury. Amarea has more than pulled her weight on this team and is helping to keep this team on the field and successful. Way to go Coyotes. I haven’t had any news about the girls volleyball game on Friday, so I guess I’ll report next week.

Community events this week are Tuesday quilting and Bible study at First Baptist, Sunday, October 1st. A pancake breakfast will be held outside the Community Center from 8 a.m. until noon. This is a donation only event, and all proceeds will go to the Preservation Society. Don’t miss your chance to enjoy Frank Pearce’s famous pancakes. Sandy Reed will be hosting the ladies fellowship meeting at Shiloh Thursday, September 28th, at 2:00 p.m. All ladies are welcome.

Don’t forget the Fall Trade Days. The meal starts at 6:00 p.m., the cost is $100 per couple. All proceeds benefit the Howlers Club. Cash prizes will be give out during the evening.

Chrissy’s Plants is getting back on its growing schedule now that our excessive heat days have passed. The new shop/community center is on pause thanks to that beautiful rain we had last week. Most of the repairs to the roof went well, but there were two large ones in that area. More thought and planning will have to be given to this problem before opening.

We had 32 school kids last Wednesday for Kids’ church. This is a wonderful ministry and volunteers are always needed. Church members donate or make food for the kids every week. If there are any sweet folks out there who would like to contribute some desserts or meals, please contact Debbie Phelan or Sue Ransom.

Prayers are needed for so many people this week. Johnny Reeves (our ex-mayor) will begin chemo treatments, Lesa Landrum is returning home from surgery, and Kathy Brockman is home from the hospital but waiting on test results for her issues. We have several in the community out with covid. Coach Ethridge also needs our prayers. Jean McKee is getting back on her feet, so is Shannon Barclay. Ginger Skelton is doing better at the rehab center in Brownwood. Many others have asked for prayers. Our borders, our government, our national budget, and many other issues with our country need serious prayer. We pray for more rain to fill tanks and grow crops. Most of all, pray for our precious troops and their families. God bless America.
