The Richland Springs Report

I finally gave in and built a fire in the wood stove. Russ has been feeling his old bones and couldn’t get warm. I believe I can say that he should be toasty now. The damp has been driven from the house, and I can remove my sweater. According to the forecast, I may have to do this for the next few weeks. The fire is lovely, but the cleaning of ashes and wood hauling is a little tedious. The heat wins the battle and tips the scale for me. For my birthday on Saturday, I had the kids sit around a campfire for Thanksgiving dinner. I know they love me because they stayed out in the damp and sat around a smokey fire. They even surprised me with a birthday cake. I was blessed.

This is Thanksgiving week, and we in this country have so many blessings for which to be thankful. There is no perfect place, but especially here in this little part of the world, we are in a good place. The Perry family will be hosting a Community Thanksgiving meal at the Community Center for anyone who would like to join them. There is no cost; it is their way of giving back. Large family or small, single, or widowed, any reason is a good one; please feel comfortable enough to come and join them.

The Christmas Market hosted by the Richland Springs Beautification Committee will be Saturday in downtown Richland Springs from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. There will be plenty of vendors to make your Christmas shopping a little easier. It gives a whole new meaning to shopping locally. I know several of our local artisans who will have unique gifts for sale. Hopefully, we will have the bottom floor of the bank building open for business and open to several vendors.

This Friday, there will be a mass exodus to San Saba as fans congregate at the stadium to watch a rematch of the Cherokee/ Richland game held earlier in the year. I’m not sure how you beat someone during the regular season and end up playing them at the area level, but I will be there. These are two long-time rivals, and the game should be entertaining. Good luck to these young San Saba County athletes.

Congratulations to the Lady Coyotes on a great finish in the Bangs tournament. They were the only 1A school in this tournament and were able to finish with a 4-1 record. The only game they lost was to Eastland. They won against Clyde, Hawley, Mason, and Bangs. Way to go, ladies.

The San Saba County Sheriff’s department has a new officer. Richland Springs welcomes K-9 officer Andor. He is a Belgian Malinois trained in drug-sniffing and apprehension. He will be working with Deputy Ian Merriman. Welcome to San Saba, County, Andor!

The Wednesday Church kids will be making ornaments for the next few weeks. They will have the last meeting on the 20th. Although the students will be back in school by the 10th, they will not meet again until January 17th. This will allow for some planning time and give the workers a rest. As usual, dates do change depending upon school activities.

I was called with an offer of free tin for the bank roof. I’m so blessed to live in this town. The powers that be are examining the roof to see if the plan to stop the leaks will work. I certainly hope so. Chrissy and I have worked very diligently, but the precious rain that we need in this area makes a horrible mess on the floor. We can only hope there is a cure for this leaky old roof.

Please don’t forget the Angel Tree in the Arrowhead Bank Building. If you can, make room for a little Christmas joy in the heart of a child. They ask that gifts be no more than $40.

There are many people on the community church prayer lists. I was delighted to see Johnny Reeves and his wife Lynn. I can always count on Johnny to sing out to his Lord and Savior. It makes my heart happy, and I know it pleases the Lord.

If for some reason you’ve missed the 1001 ads for Medicare supplements, be patient; hopefully they will be done soon. At the moment, I think they outnumber the calls for auto service contracts.

Please pray for our country, for peace in Israel and the return of the hostages, for our southern border, for our President, congress, and upcoming elections. Pray for our homeless veterans, and most of all pray for our precious troops and their families.
