The Richland Springs Report

Happy Valentine’s Day, everyone. I’m sure all the rose stores are sold out; the candy lane is a little bare, and all the mushy cards have been sold. All those things are good, and show your loved one that on this day you want to show them how valued they are. What is more important and lasting is a daily reminder to your loved one by word, by chore, by small token, that they are loved all year round. A hug or praise is just as valued as a rose or chocolate bar. Make Valentine’s Day a 365-day event. Time can be short.

The girls’ volleyball team is headed for playoffs, and so are the boys. I have seen no details for the upcoming games. The One Act Play group, headed by Mrs. Locker and accompanied by Mrs. Starr, returned from Lubbock early Sunday morning. Their pace was a little cautious due to the snow and ice in the Lubbock area. Fortunately, by the time they reached Post, they were out of the danger zone. We’re glad they arrived home safely.

Tennis is starting, and early training sessions for track will start shortly. Spring break is just around the corner, and our wonderful STAAR will be administered in May. My goal is to get a perfect score in history. I suspect I’m a little greedy, but we have such great kids, I would hate them to fail this test. I also dislike being the teacher that taught them and failed to guarantee their success. Such is the life of a teacher.

I’m planning my wardrobe for the big cruise. I don’t want to spend any money on new clothes, so this means I need to be innovative with the clothes I have hanging in the closet. When I travel with my son and his wife, they have color coordinated outfits, but that won't be the case with my sisters. I will have to write at least one column while I’m travelling. Be prepared for photos.

It’s time to run for school board places here in Richland. I’m not sure how many positions are open, but I know of at least three people who are planning to run. I will try to get statements from them once they announce. It’s important that we get candidates who are invested in the school and come without a personal agenda. The goal is to provide the best environment for our kids. It’s a difficult job, and the people involved need to be committed for the long haul.

Praise God for the rain, and praise God for the Men’s Breakfast last Sunday. Over 20 men showed up to listen to our County Judge, Jody Fauley. He spoke to the men as they gathered around the breakfast table. Thank God for strong Christian men.

I don’t have to tell you that our country needs serious prayers.

Our president seems to be in failing health, our world is up in turmoil, and our border is being invaded by men from multiple countries. We need prayer. Johnny Reeves was in church on Sunday, and that is always a happy boost to the church members. We have many sick and hurt. So, keep praying, checking on your neighbors, and holding up all our first responders as they deal with daily dangers.

Most of all pray for our precious troops and their families.
