Day of service included landscaping, building shade structure at San Saba River Nature Park
Hundreds of Lower Colorado River Authority employees picked up paint brushes, shovels and more on Friday, April 12, to volunteer on dozens of community projects throughout Texas during LCRA’s annual day of service, Steps Forward Day.
In San Saba, LCRA employees installed new landscaping and completed a shade structure at San Saba River Nature Park.
Other Steps Forward Day projects ranged from painting the basketball court, fence posts and picnic tables at Willie Washington Park in Brady to installing a split-rail fence and creating river rock beds at the Llano River Golf Course to painting fire hydrants in the downtown square in San Marcos.
“Steps Forward Day is a day to work hard, have fun and give back to our customer communities,” LCRA General Manager Phil Wilson said. “This year, about 700 employees volunteered to pitch in on these projects to help support Texans and Texas communities.”
Wilson said LCRA has a strong legacy of service.
'Our volunteers tackle projects that communities might not have the time and resources to complete on their own, and we’re excited to see these projects to the finish line,” Wilson said. “It’s a way of saying ‘thank you’ to our customers and helping to make a real difference in the communities in which we work.”
This year, LCRA employees volunteered on 36 Steps Forward Day projects in 30 communities: Austin, Bertram, Brady, Brenham, Burnet, Burton, Cuero, Dripping Springs, Eagle Lake, Flatonia, Fredericksburg, Giddings, Gonzales, Granite Shoals, Hempstead, Lexington, Llano, Lockhart, Luling, Mason, Pflugerville, Prairie Lea, Round Rock, San Angelo, San Marcos, San Saba, Schulenburg, Shiner, Smithville and Weimar.
LCRA launched its Steps Forward employee volunteer program in 2015. LCRA works with its customers to identify service projects in their communities, supplies the labor and helps provide the materials needed to complete the projects. For more information, visit www.lcra.org/ stepsforward.
