Stephen Gray Hamrick, “Hammer,” 74 years old, passed away on May 4, 2024, in Belton, Texas.

There will be a graveside service for Mr. Hamrick at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 9, 2024, at Chappel Cemetery in San Saba County. The family will host a visitation before the service on Thursday, May 9, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Stephenville Funeral Home.

He was born on July 10,1949 in San Saba, Texas, to Carl Jr. “Pete” Hamrick and Natalie Gage Hamrick. He grew up in San Saba County where he helped his father for many years farming and ranching. He graduated from San Saba High School in 1967 and attended Tarleton State University from 1967-1970.

He married Eunice Alexander in 1973. They lived in Denver City, Texas, and Stephen worked in the oil field for 17 years. While there, they had twins, Cody and Stephanie, in 1983.

Stephen enjoyed watching his kids grow up and do what they loved. Cody, an avid golfer, and Stephanie, competing in rodeos, brought him joy and kept his weekends busy. Stephen’s greatest passion in life was hunting big game with his friends and family. He never missed an opportunity to take a trip in hopes to get a trophy, and he ended up running out of wall space to put them all.

Upon retirement, Stephen moved to Alpine, Wyoming, a dream he always had. He ran a Western Art Gallery while there. After hearing he was going to be a Paw Paw to his first grandson, back to Texas it was! He was a very proud Paw Paw and spoiled all his grandchildren every moment he could get.

In June of last year, Stephen traveled to Mexico to celebrate his kids' 40th Birthday; he stated right before he passed, “that was one of the coolest things he did in his life.”

Stephen is preceded in death by his parents, Pete Hamrick and Natalie Hamrick, along with many aunts, uncles, and grandparents.

Stephen is survived by his two children: son Cody Hamrick and wife Heather of Argyle, and Stephanie Hohertz and husband Tim Hohertz of Stephenville; sister, Susan Slaughter and husband Steve of Belton; sister, Annie McCall of Belton; grandchildren: Cash Hamrick, Tate Hamrick, Dottie Hamrick, and Adilynn Hohertz; and multiple nieces and nephews.
