Last week was a big one as we sent four of our athletes to the State Track Meet on May 4th. Coach Alan Berrio writes, “Gunner Baugh clenched the gold medal in the high jump event with a leap of 6 feet 6 inches. Baugh's outstanding performance highlighted his skill and dedication, earning the senior the top spot on the podium.

“Cayden Houston also put in a solid effort in the high jump, finishing in 6th place with a respectable jump of 6 feet. Despite facing tough competition, Houston showed determination and skill throughout the event.

“In addition, the relay 4x100 team, consisting of Jeremiah Wakefield, Cayden Houston, Joel Valdez, and Gunner Baugh, performed well, securing a 7th place finish with a season-best time of 44.41 seconds.

“Baugh's gold medal and the team's performance reflect their hard work and commitment to the sport. Their achievements serve as inspiration to other athletes and highlight the rewards of dedication and effort in competitive athletics.”

Every other school year, our PTC provides field day shirts for our students. The last cycle of shirts was designed by our students via an art contest. It was such a hit with students, staff, and parents that we decided to do it again. Our art contest winners this year are 3rd grader Jordan Arzt and 4th grader Addisyn Trinidad. This art work will be featured on our Cherokee Elementary T-shirts for two years. Congratulations to these creative students.

The end of the year is always very busy. Here are some upcoming dates to be aware of: The FFA Banquet will be on the 13th. The Rotary Banquet will be on the 16th. Field Day for elementary students will be on the 16th as well. Prom will be on the 18th. The athletic banquet is set for the 20th. The Living Wax Museum Exhibit will be on the 21st, hosted by the 3rd-5th graders. The last day of school is the 23rd with the awards ceremony for elementary beginning at 9 a.m. and for secondary at 10 a.m. We will have an early release at noon that day. Graduation is on the 24th. We are excited to wrap up the year here at Cherokee ISD!
