There is so much to report on this week from Cherokee ISD.

Spring Break was an exciting time for our school. Many of our staff, students, and parents went on a trip to Italy through EF Tours. The trip started with a layover in London, and we were able to go see Buckingham Palace. The first day in Italy, we visited Murano and Burano, two islands of Venice. We watched a glass blowing demonstration, did a little shopping, took a few ferry rides, ate lunch, enjoyed gelato and other desserts, took a walking tour through the twists and turns of Venice, drank coffee at the oldest coffee shop in Italy, and rode gondolas…all in the pouring down rain!

The second day we traveled to Bologna, the food capital of Italy. We ate some homemade pasta and perused the most beautiful produce and meat markets. Presentation is very important to Italians. Later that day we traveled through the stunning landscape of Tuscany to get to Pisa where we were able to see the leaning tower, baptistery, and basilica.

Day three took us to Florence which is filled with art. From the architecture of the buildings, to the sculptures in the square, to the endless supply of paintings, Florence lives and breathes art.

On day four, we went to the medieval hamlet of Assisi. We loved the quiet, calm beauty of this city.

The next day was Rome. We visited the Collosseum and the Vatican. The ornate décor of the Vatican was breathtaking. We ended our trip in Pompeii. It is truly amazing how well preserved it is.

Our students learned so much and were exposed to many new cultural things. We are proud of the way the behaved, so respectfully and mature. It was a great, although tiring, trip!

Mrs. Padgett’s classes have entered their work in two different poster contests. For the San Saba County Soil and Water Conservation District contest, Sara Barker placed 1st, Maegan Kuykendall placed 2nd, and Kyson Shanklin placed 3rd. In the Hickory Underground Water District poster contest, Mandy Fry placed 3rd. Congratulations to these 5th graders!

Last week, students received progress reports, so please stay updated on your child’s grades. The end of the six weeks will be on April 11th. Next week, we will have a Solar Eclipse Family night on Monday and then an early release at noon on Tuesday, April 2nd. We will have no school on Monday, April 8th due to the solar eclipse. Please make note of these dates!

Have a great week!
