100 Years Ago June 19, 1924

Hugh Henry of Wichita Falls is here enjoying a few days fishing in the good old San Saba. Hugh says the San Saba water has a peculiar taste of it’s own–– and the fish, Oh! Boy, how good they taste.

Douglas Smith, who has been a student of the West Point Military Academy arrived home to spend his vacation with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Smith.

Visitors if you ever mean to visit your friends in Shiloh community, this is the time, while cabbage heads are large and fresh, snap beans tender, and tomatoes, peaches and plums ripe. The stranger need not be turned away empty.

The San Saba Business Women’s League met in the district courtroom. One project they are working on, the State Park: The committee on parks, streets and side walks reported favorably on the progress of establishing a state park in San Saba County and a meeting of chairmen and citizens of adjoining counties will meet at the park site to take pictures and discuss other matters which may come before them.

Commissioner W. J. Smith of Pecan Grove has one-sixth of an acre of dew and black berries from which he has picked over 250 gallons of berries. A more beautiful sight could not be pictured than the thrifty wellcared-for berry vines loaded to the tips with their luscious golden harvest.

The farmers who brought in their produce sold out wholesale, although not many house-keepers came out––and some after the produce was all sold. S. E. Harber has the distinction of having been the first one on the market with his produce. Marvin Terry with his plums and peaches also was here. He did not bring any of the milk goats along, but may do so later. Keep the days in your mind and don’t be a quitter, bring your produce as long as you have something to sell. Let the ladies of the town cooperate and come out and get a bargain in beans.

60 Years Ago June 18, 1964

Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Childers, Paula and Jesse, went to Austin to meet their son, Gary M. Childers, who arrived for a 14 day leave from the Navy. He will be stationed at Empire, Oregon before being assigned to a ship.

Mr. and Mrs. Ben Kilgore of Luling came for a few days visit with his sister and husband, Mr. and Mrs. Jim Miller.

Mr. and Mrs. Anson Garrett, Walter Eckert, Mrs. Geneva Lord and Mr. and Mrs. Victor Eckert attended the 50th wedding anniversary celebration of Mr. and Mrs. Jonah Eckert at Winters.

Tom Alan Sloan of San Saba, but with most of his ranching operations in the Sloan community, seems to be the only trail driver left in this section. He has been on the trail with cattle trying to get to some grass a number of days at a time several different times this spring. At present he has a string of cows and calves under herd from the Polk ranch at Algerita headed west for either Kimble or Menard.

Golding Motors of San Saba has been selected as one of the nation’s outstanding Ford dealerships and has received Ford Motor Company’s Distinguished Achievement Award. T. P. and Paul Golding have been Ford dealers in San Saba since 1938.

Rhoda Zudora Brown, daughter of Mrs. Mary Irene Brown of San Saba, became the bride of Max Gregory Keele of Burnet, June 6 in the Wallace and 2nd Sts. Church of Christ. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Keele of Burnet.
