Guest Choir at New Hope Presbyterian Church

On Sunday, June 9, the Chancel Choir from First Presbyterian Church in San Angelo will participate in worship at New Hope Presbyterian Church – 9615 FM 2732.

The choir, made up of 20 singers, is known for its outstanding sound and ability to sing many genres of sacred music. Composed of volunteer singers, as well as scholarship singers from the music degree program at Angelo State University, the choir leads worship during the traditional service most Sunday mornings in San Angelo. This will be their first visit to San Saba.

Worship begins at 9:30 a.m. – and a luncheon will be held following worship.

Choir Director: Robert Stovall has devoted 46 years to music education in several school, administration, and church arenas. His career has led him to many opportunities to serve the state, such as, President of the Texas Music Educators Association, Church Vice President of the Texas Choral Directors Association, and many opportunities to conduct numerous All Region and State Choruses across the U.S. Before retiring in 2021, Robert served as the Director of Music and Arts at First United Methodist Church of Fort Worth. As a retired music educator, Mr. Stovall continues to serve in a part-time capacity by teaching and directing the choir at First Presbyterian Church in San Angelo. He enjoys being able to work with local musicians and assisting at events around the area. A native of west Texas, Mr. Stovall graduated with both a Bachelor of Music Education and Master of Music Education from Angelo State University.

Accompanists: Louellen Meyer is the organist and Director of Music at First Presbyterian Church San Angelo where she also directs the handbell choir. She is the accompanist for the San Angelo Chorus, President of F.A.M.E. (Friends of Art and Music Education) atASU, Dean of the Permian Basin/Concho Valley American Guild of Organists and serves on boards for SanAngelo Symphony Orchestra and San Angelo Chorus. She has also been a professor of music at ASU. Her Master of Music and Doctor of MusicalArts in organ performance are from the University of Texas, Austin. Her husband, Dr. Robert Meyer, is an OB/GYN in San Angelo. They have two grown children, 1 grandchild and two on the way.

Jane Smith is the Organist at First Methodist Church, San Angelo. She has taught orchestra and music in public and private schools in San Angelo and remains a widely sought after accompanist throughout the San Angelo area. Jane is actively involved in the American Guild of Organists and plays in a jazz trio. Jane is the widow of Gene Smith who was the long-term conductor of the SanAngelo Symphony. She and her husband were instrumental in its success for many years. Jane has a Bachelor and Master of Music Education from University of Texas El Paso and University of North Texas, respectively.
