My name is Perry Thomas, and I am honored to announce my candidacy for District Attorney for the 33rd & 424th Judicial District Attorney’s Office for Burnet, Llano, Blanco, and San Saba Counties. With almost 34 years of service as an attorney, 28 of those years as an assistant district attorney and almost five years in the private practice of law, my candidacy for district attorney is clearly the next step for me to continue my service to the citizens of these counties.

Over the course of my service to the people of the State of Texas, I have tried hundreds of criminal cases, fighting for justice for victims of crime. I have tried capital murder cases resulting in the death penalty, prosecuted crimes committed against children, sexual assaults, white collar crimes and drug crimes. Throughout my years of service, I have always had as my goal to be an advocate for victims of crimes.

I spent the first 24 years of my career prosecuting all types of crimes. From juvenile crimes to DWI to capital murder resulting in the death penalty. I have tried hundreds of criminal cases before a jury. I served as a special prosecutor for various counties around the State of Texas when special expertise was required, especially involving death pen-alty cases. I then served for over four years as the First Assistant District Attorney for the office I now wish to serve as District Attorney. While serving as the First Assistant District Attorney, I supervised the work of other assistant district attorneys while being an advocate for victims of crime while prosecuting cases in Burnet, Llano, Blanco, and San Saba Counties. During this time, I came to know on both a professional and personal level the various members of law enforcement who serve to protect us. The last few years of my law career have been spent in private practice. I have the experience, not only in the courtroom but in the management of a district attorney’s office, to serve as the elected District Attorney.

Having raised a family in this community, I know firsthand the importance of a safe place to live and work. My wife Shannon and I along with our two sons have been involved in this community through our church, schools, and community activities. I know the challenges and concerns of the citizens of this area.

It is my goal to work to protect the citizens of this district from crime and to keep the Hill Country the place to live. It is that goal that drives me to take the oath as your District Attorney.
