Praise God for all this lovely rain. The nasty storms passed us by, and area gardens and trees are benefitting from a good drenching rain. It’s not a frog strangler yet, but it sure is good. I don’t have my watering system set up yet, so this is good for me.

The Graceful Quilters attended the Quilting Show in Brownwood on Friday. We ladies made it a day. I imagine some folks wouldn’t find it too entertaining, but if you are an engineer, craftsman, or artist, the quilts should delight your eyes and mind.

There are also craft classes and merchants selling a myriad of neat sewing gizmos. A few of us won door prizes, but to my surprise, I won the big prize. Since I rarely win door prizes, I was delighted. I had one of my sewing sisters remind me that sisters share. They were joking of course, but I do share. We also visited a wonderful antique store called Junk and Disorderly, just down from Goodwill towards Abilene. It was a great day, especially when you stop for a good Mexican lunch. Andrea even showed us a unique Styrofoam hack.

Only two sets of STAAR tests remain, history and math. History will be completed Tuesday and Wednesday, then next week students in most grades will complete the math test.

Things have been a little hectic due to the success of our athletes and UIL Academic competitors. We are very proud of our student athletes, but it is hard to schedule activities around regional and state finals.

Congratulations to Jayden Sutherland on his regional qualification in golf! Jayden played well last week, representing Coyote golf well. In his four-year career, he has qualified for state once and regional three times.

Congratulations to our Lady Coyote golfers. Although they are not moving on to the next stage, they have done a wonderful job under the excellent coaching of Shannon Sutherland. Thank you, ladies, for representing our school so well.

Many in our community are mourning the passing of Damon Bush. Damon was a unique character who was loved by many people. He had an amazing sense of humor. One tale that has been passed around is that he tied a live rattlesnake to a chair until someone could come and kill it. His type of man is needed today, and he will be missed by many.

The Richland Springs School will be looking for some new teachers. I noticed that a high school English teacher is first on the list. I understand that Mrs. Sheffield resigned and will be moving on to another school district. This is a great little town and a wonderful school. I believe I can speak that truth because I started working at the school in 2005. This year I will see the 5th grade kids that I taught in 2017 graduate from my government and economics class. What a delight to see what fine young adults they have become.

Johnny Reeves is headed out for a round of tests to see results of months of chemo. We are praying for a great report. Kathy Brockman is in rehab in San Saba, Danny Phillips is trying to get a doctor to treat his health issues, and there is a host of others needing prayers.

Please pray for our country, our President, our combative Congress and for our upcoming elections. We the people must get out and vote in November. You can’t sit around and complain if you don’t get out and vote. Every, I mean every vote is crucial. As we sit on the verge of war, please Lord, calm the stormy seas of turmoil in Ukraine, Israel, Iran, Russia, and China. Protect our police officers and Border Patrol agents. Most of all, please protect our precious troops and their families.
